Accessible Materials Made Right #5: Adobe Acrobat Pro Version 2

This course will focus on using Adobe Acrobat Pro to create accessible documents. We will be addressing: document set up, the importance of tags, accessible tables, bookmarks, and the accessibility checker. The purpose of the Accessible Materials Made Right series is to increase awareness of what makes digital content accessible and why it really matters, and to equip you with the knowledge and skills needed to begin creating accessible documents. This series will focus on using intentional planning and design to help people who would not otherwise be able to access electronic content. Everyone benefits from accessible design. The curb cuts at crosswalks and buttons that automatically open doors are features that have been developed to give individuals with disabilities critically needed access to places that would otherwise be inaccessible to them. However, almost everyone has benefited from features like these, whether it be a parent pushing a child in a stroller or someone trying to get into a building with their arms full. The same holds true when we make digital content available to all users. For some people, digital accessibility is necessary for them to receive the same information that others can readily see, hear, or understand. However, experience has shown that good accessible design benefits all users.
